Why Cheeky? Well .......it's just so much cooler than saying smart alec, smart mouth, sassy britches, or worse yet, smart a*# which are all things I've been called for pretty much my entire life. Maybe it's just the Dorothy Sayers or Harry Potter in me, but it just seems the British say it eveh so much beteh, don't you think? Rathah!

Why Teacher? Ummmm. Because I am one.

Rome Day 2 - The Colosseum

Hello, my name is Kami. I am going to be a sophomore this year. So far this trip has taken so many unexpected turns. It is all okay though, because so far everyone is okay. I have really had a blast these past couple of days running, walking and flying.
Wednesday June 8th: Today we went and saw the colosseum. Can I just say breathtaking. It was so amazing. Let me just say that those were some steep stairs, but it was definitely worth the view.
This is a panorama from the upper rows. They say it could seat 50-70 thousand people. You can see where they have reconstructed half the stadium floor because underneath was a series of tunnels and rooms and cages where they would hold wild animals and gladiators. Our guide said that those fights weren't usually "to the death" like they show in the movies because gladiators were so expensive to train and worth a lot of money. They could fight to win their freedom. He also said Christians weren't killed in this stadium.

After the colosseum, we went looking around at some ruins and such. Our tour director was a great guy, he knew a lot of the colosseum. We saw the very first basilica built in Rome (or at least a third of it.)

After some sightseeing we said our goodbyes and were on our way to Florence. After an hour or so of driving we stopped to get some lunch.    We then drove to Florence on the drive everyone was out. We certainly have been exhausted because these past couple of days have been exhausting and hot! Finally we arrive at our hotel, Hotel Victoria.

It is certainly a very cute and European feel hotel. We all went and enjoyed a very delicious dinner and went walking around Florence.
Walked right past all this one the way to supper. We didn't know it was the Duomo and Giotto's Bell Tower.
